Date: Friday, November 6th, 2020
Time: 10 am – 3:30 pm
Leader(s): Jess Riddle
Location: Storey Mill Creek Project Area near Summerville, GA
Outing Description: The Forest Service has just come out with substantial changes to the Storey Mill Creek Project Environmental Assessment (EA). The focus is still on longleaf pine and woodland restoration but they have added several more thinnings for shortleaf pine maintenance.
We’ll visit the project area with the main goal of examining the recently added stands, assessing some longleaf treatments started a few years ago, and possibly looking at the mature longleaf stand in the area.
Distance and Difficulty: We’ll be doing multiple quarter- to half-mile hikes to access the stands. There will not be trails, but the forest in this area tends not to have particularly thick understory vegetation.
Meeting Place Directions: Mack White Gap USFS Parking. The gravel parking area on the south side of US27 at Mack White Gap, which is right at the top to Taylors Ridge
