Lake Russell Hike with Kathy and Sue 10.27.2019

Location: Lake Russell Recreation Area, Mt Airy
Outing Description: Walk along the bank of pristine Lake Russell to dam and back. Eat lunch on the trail, while we have a discussion of the USFS management plan for the Lake Russell Recreation Area. 
Meeting Place Directions: Nancy Town Creek dam, which is the trail head. On U.S. 123 East of Cornelia, near the Mt. Airy, Georgia railroad bridge, turn onto the Lake Russell Recreation Area access road. Drive about 2.5 miles, turn left at sign to the parking lot at Nancytown Lake. A $5.00 cash parking fee is required. The Inter-agency Senior and Access Passes, Golden Age and Access Passports are accepted and entitle the passholder to a 50% discount on day use fees.

Distance and Difficulty: A flat easy dirt path except for steep uneven stone stairs with no hand rails at the beginning. Total 4.5 miles at a leisurely pace. 
What to Bring and Wear: Lunch, water, rain gear. If allergic to bees/wasps, remember to bring your meds/epi-pen. 
Cancellation: Hikers will be notified by email, by 6:00 pm the evening before the hike, if the outing is cancelled due to forecast of severe weather, etc. 
Pet Policy: Pets allowed. One pet per hiker allowed.
Family Safe Policy: Georgia ForestWatch Outings are a smoke, alcohol, and drug-free setting.
