Time: 9 – 12 pm
Leader(s): Becca Risser, Headwaters Watershed Specialist, Chattahoochee Riverkeeper
Partners making it possible: Chattahoochee Riverkeeper
Location: Raven Cliffs Trail, Raven Cliffs Wilderness Area, Helen, GA
Outing Description:
Join us for a walk in Dodd Creek–really, IN the creek–to learn more about the Chattahoochee Watershed and the other precious rivers and streams in north Georgia.
We will walk a short distance (~1mi) along the Raven Cliffs trail, then spend the rest of our time exploring the stream. We’ll catch critters and learn about the creatures of the river–Crayfish, salamanders, and a whole lot of insects! We’ll discuss identification, what macroinvertebrates can teach us about water quality, and the critical importance of forests for stream health.
Be prepared for wet feet and legs as we will be walking and standing in the stream. After we finish in the stream, you will have your choice to independently hike the rest of the trail or return to the parking lot with us.

Distance and Difficulty:
This will not be a strenuous day, but it is recommended for those who are sure footed and comfortable in and around water. Children ages 8 and up are welcome. Waders, not boots, are necessary if you want to stay dry, but on a hot day the water will feel great on your legs!
What to Bring and Wear:
Prepare to get wet! Waterproof shoes or waders are a must. A change of clothes, towel, and picnic lunch is recommended. A walking stick or wading staff is helpful to keep your balance in the water.
Cancellation: If Outing is cancelled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, we will notify you via email by 6:00 pm on the evening before.
Pet Policy: Pets allowed
