Outing Description:
Exploring the lichens of a montane forest.
Meeting Place Directions:
Along Patterson Gap Rd. at the trailhead to Wolf Knob: 34.97274, -83.47548. From US 23 in Dillard, drive west on Bettys Creek Rd. 3.4 miles, and turn left onto Patterson Gap Rd.; from that junction, drive about 3.3 miles to the meeting place.

Distance and Difficulty:
The hike uphill is steep and strenuous, but we will be taking it in stretches, observing lichens along the way at times.
What to Bring and Wear:
Bring magnification (10x hand lens, magnifier phone app, macro clip-on lens for phone camera), food & water, walking sticks if needed for rough trail; wear layered clothing suitable to predicted weather conditions & high elevation (3200 ft to 3500 ft)
