Date: Monday, November 30, 2020
Time: 10 am – 2 pm
Leader: Charles Brown
Location: Lake Russell WMA in Mt Airy
Outing Description: Walk the lake loop at a leisurely pace. We’ll hike the recent USFS trail reroute, then discuss it and their recreation budget over lunch. The trail is relatively flat, but two of the bridges are out, so we’ll have to clamber down some fairly steep slopes to wade through about 1″ water or step across on rocks.
Meeting Place Directions: Lake Russell WMA: “swim beach parking lot.” From Main St in Mt Airy (which adjoins Cornelia), take Lake Russell Rd down to the lake. Veer right at the fork and follow sign towards campground. The swim beach parking lot is 0.1 mile past Lake Russell boat ramp. $5 parking fee/car; $2.50 for senior over 65. Note: this is NOT the huge Richard B Russell lake on the Savannah River.
See meeting place on Google Maps
