Location: Five Falls on Chattooga Georgia Mountain Treasure

Outing Description: The hike will be in the Five Falls Georgia Mountain Treasure area in Rabun County GA. We will access by driving the length of Watergage Road, park and hike to the Chattooga River (just above several of the most spectacular rapids on the Wild and Scenic river), then head downstream to Camp Creek and back. This is a short hike (2 miles roundtrip). The second half of this outing will include a hike down to Raven Cliffs on the Chattooga (3 miles roundtrip) where we will enjoy lunch. While on this outing we will also observe and learn about a past Forest Service logging project along Watergage Road.

Meeting Place Directions: Meet in the parking lot of Blue Ridge Honey Company, 6306 US Hwy 441 S (about 5 miles south of Clayton GA), Lakemont, GA 30552

Distance and Difficulty:  Total hiking distance will be approx 5 miles. Difficulty is moderate, although the hike up from the Chattooga River may be considered strenuous for some.

What to Bring and Wear: Wear hiking shoes and bring a hiking stick for support on trail to river and for minor water crossings. Bring rain gear

Cancellation: If hike is cancelled due to weather, we will notify you via email by 6:00 pm on the evening before hike.
