WORKDAY: Help restore streamside vegetation on Mill Creek in Murray County. In partnership with Save Georgia’s Hemlocks, Forest Service, and Nature Conservancy, we’ll help plant hemlocks and other native trees/shrubs around a new bottomless culvert on the trout stream.
Event: Forest restoration project at Rocky Flats in Murray County. A new bridge has recently been built over the creek with a bottomless culvert so the trout can pass through. Save Georgia’s Hemlocks has been asked by the U. S. Forest Service and the Nature Conservancy to help restore the four quadrants of land around the bridge to a forested condition similar to the existing surroundings. To accomplish this, we and partner organizations will be planting a mix of hemlocks, native hardwoods, and shrubs.
Where to Meet: Triple C Market #2 / Sunoco Station, 6110 US-411, Chatsworth, GA 30705. See map on next page.
Schedule: 10:00 a.m. – Please be on time. Following a briefing on the site conditions, planting process to be used, safety reminders, and directions to the work site, you’ll be organized into small teams, including at least one experienced SGH Facilitator per team, and carpool to the work site. The trees and most of the planting materials will already have been staged. 1:00 p.m. – We’ll pause to eat lunch together (to be provided by SGH) and then resume work. By 3:30 p.m. (or sooner if finished) – We’ll stop work, clean up, carpool back to the Triple C, and then head for home.
Access: The road to the site is unpaved for part of the way but quite passable. Four-wheel drive isn’t needed.
Terrain: The terrain at the work sites is sloping but not steep. We’ll make sure everyone is assigned to a work site where they can be safe and comfortable.
What to Wear: Dress for the weather and the activity, including long pants and long sleeves, sturdy footgear with socks, and rain gear in case of light rain.
What to Bring: * Personal water bottle. We’ll provide some snacks and extra bottled water. * Pair of work gloves. Make sure your tools are marked with your name. * Sturdy shovel (rounded, not flat)

Don’t Bring: This is an environmentally-friendly, pack-it-in pack-it-out event, so please don’t bring any glass or styrofoam items. Also, as much as we love dogs, please don’t bring them this time.
