Outing Description:
Autumn Olive (Elaeagnus umbellata) is quickly gaining ground on part of the forest just 20 minutes away from our office in Dahlonega. Learn how to identify, upload data to citizen science mobile app for invasives, prevent a few of these huge shrubs from putting out thousands of seeds, and enjoy your lunch by a beautiful stream.
Where to meet:
Georgia ForestWatch Office 81 Crown Mtn Place Building C, Suite 200 Dahlonega, GA 30533. Crown Mtn Place is off of Morrison Moore Pkwy / GA 9N just south of the light at S Chestatee St. Turn onto Crown Mtn Place when you see Dunkin Doughnuts and Moe’s. Left into office complex and straight back. Georgia ForestWatch office is on the left at suite 200.
We will then caravan to Hightower Church Rd 15-20 minutes away at 9:15.
Distance and difficulty of Outing:
We will be working with hand tools such as loppers and hand pruners. The site is very close to where we will park cars.
What to bring and wear:
Smartphone, long sleeves and long pants. Closed-toed shoes, rain gear, any meds. Packed lunch (optional), snacks and plenty of water.
