Location: Bartram Trail – Sandy Ford to Russell Bridge

Outing Description: This will be the first hike in our Bartram Hike series: Sandy Ford to Russell Bridge . The Bartram Trail begins here at the SC/GA line. We’ll be hiking along the Chattooga River for much of this hike. The hike will be 9.5 miles with an optional 1/2 mile side trip to Dicks Creek Falls. This hike is rated moderate to strenuous (due to length). We’ll be on mostly level terrain with occasional creek hopping and some elevation changes.

2020 Bartram Challenge: Georgia ForestWatch is partnering with the GA/NC Bartram Trail Society to hike the entire length of the Bartram Trail in Georgia in a series of four hikes. The Bartram Trail travels 36.5 miles in Georgia, from the Georgia-South Carolina line to the North Carolina line where it continues on for another 78 miles. Much of the trail passes through some of our Georgia Mountain Treasures. We’ll break the hike up into four sections (each one averaging around 9 miles). Join us for one or all of the hikes. Along the way you’ll see some gorgeous scenery (the Wild and Scenic Chattooga River, waterfalls, mountain vistas, flora and fauna) as well as learn all about the great naturalist William Bartram and his travels through our beautiful North Georgia mountains in the late 18th century.
