Location: Stonewall Falls trails in Tiger GA, Rabun County
Outing Description: This popular hike is about 5.5 miles of hiking, moderate difficulty, and varied terrain. Several water crossings require feet to get wet with water above boot level. So be prepared with hiking shoes you can get wet and a hiking stick to support you during water crossings. Stonewall Falls is a beautiful setting in National Forest, and the trail is designated for mountain biking or hiking (but few bikers challenge these trails). We will explore, talk about threats to this area, stop and eat lunch. The hike should last about 4 hours. This will be a dog friendly hike for socialized trail dogs–but only one dog per hiker please.
Meeting Place Directions: Tiger Mart on Old Hwy 441 in Tiger GA. We will carpool to the trailhead. Coming from Atlanta, head north on I 85 to north 985 and continue onto north 23 to north 441. Follow toward Clayton GA. But before Clayton, turn left at the Tiger Connector Rd (see Goats on a Roof store at this intersection) and follow to intersection with Old Hwy 441. Distance and Difficulty: Five and a half miles from start to finish. Moderate difficulty
What to Bring and Wear: Lunch, drinking water, appropriate clothing including rain poncho, footwear for wet and dry hiking. If allergic to bees/wasps, remember to bring your meds/epi pin.
Cancellation: Hikers will be notified by email, by 6:00 pm the evening before the hike, if the outing is cancelled due to forecast of severe weather, etc.
